David Joron is a Toronto-based artist and Professor of painting and digital arts. After completing formal training at The Ontario College of Art and Design (Drawing & Painting, with honors), the University of Toronto (Art History) and Sheridan College Institute (Multimedia Design) he has exhibited extensively in the context of community arts organizations, commercial and public galleries and international art fairs in Canada and the United States. He is included in Carte Blanche Volume 2: Painting and has been mentioned in such publications as The Globe and Mail, The Toronto Star, C Magazine, Canadian House and Home and Canadian Art Magazine. As a professor at Sheridan College Institute, he is heavily involved in curriculum development and media-based practices.
David Joron’s current body of work explores the nature of memory, dreams and imagination. By placing parts of images from different times and places together on the same picture plane he attempts to approximate the way our minds bring these things together to form new relationships between separate ideas and hence create new ideas. Joron intentionally alters scale, colour and perspective to compel the viewer to consider each element of the composition on its own as well as within this new context. This allows for the viewer to pull out the parts of the work that strike them the most and construct their own narrative from it.
